HAProxy 503 Service Unavailable (Iptables enabling)

2019-10-22 nginx haproxy

After configuring a three nodes setup with a load balancer node and two nginx nodes, i am failing in establishing the connections between the nodes and in making haproxy work without issues. The nodes can ping between each other but the HAProxy presents the Service Unavailable Error 501 error

I setup a minimum cluster of three nodes:

Node 1 (haproxy): OS: CentOS7: IP: 192.168.233.138

Node 2 (nginx1): OS: CentOS7 IP: 192.168.233.136

Node 3 (nginx2): OS: CentOS7 IP: 192.168.233.137

I completed HAProxy.conf and nginx configurations.

HAProxy.conf on the loadbalancer node:

    # to have these messages end up in /var/log/haproxy.log you will
    # need to:
    #
    # 1) configure syslog to accept network log events. This is done
    # by adding the '-r' option to the SYSLOGD_OPTIONS in
    #    /etc/sysconfig/syslog

When interrogating the loadbalancer, I receive an error:

[[email protected] haproxy]# curl 192.168.233.138
<html><body><h1>503 Service Unavailable</h1>
No server is available to handle this request.
</body></html>

What am I doing wrong ?

Answers

Resolved by IPtables, firewall rules on the local nginx nodes were limiting the network flows:

//Command to add on the loadbalancer iptables -I OUTPUT -d 192.168.233.136 -p tcp --dport 80 -j ACCEPT iptables -I OUTPUT -d 192.168.233.137 -p tcp --dport 80 -j ACCEPT

//Command on the nginx1 iptables -I INPUT -s 192.168.233.138 -p tcp -j ACCEPT

//Command on the nginx2 iptables -I INPUT -s 192.168.233.138 -p tcp -j ACCEPT
